Moxibustion & Acupuncture

Acupuncture and Moxibustion

Acupuncture and moxibustion together are one of the five pillars of Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture is the use of thin needles to stimulate acupuncture points along the body's meridians to harmonise the flow of Qi within the body.

Moxibustion is the use of the herb mugwort (Artemisia). It is dried and shaped into cones and stuck onto the ends of needles, and then lit. Alternatively, it can be shaped into cigar-like rolls and then lit, stimulating acupuncture points, meridians or even whole areas of the body.

Guasha

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is actually an old household remedy for treating oneself. Having gained popularity again in China in recent times, it has also gradually found acceptance in the West.

The method of Gua Sha involves the use of blunt objects such as specially designed Gua Sha scrapers, Chinese soup spoons and other similar blunt objects to scrape the areas where there are muscle pains.
It is most commonly applied to the neck and shoulder area.
It is used for opening the surface of the skin, which extracts pathogenic agents, increasing the blood flow to this area of the body and relieving muscle tension.
