Cultivation of Life (Yang Sheng) in Chinese Medicine

The Cultivation of Life (Yang Sheng) has long been known in Chinese medicine and was first mentioned in Zhuang Zi c. 365-290 BC.

Cultivation of Life refers to measures and behaviours to maintain physical and mental health.

The practices extend into every area of life. These include Qi Gong exercises, nutrition (what to eat and when), behaviour in life (how to behave in stressful situations or when to go to bed/get up) and many others.

Theoretical basics are also part of Yang Sheng from which the measures and behaviours are derived.

As a therapist in my practice, I try to pass on Yang Sheng advice to each patient in addition to my actual treatment through e.g. acupuncture.
